Skincare Myth Busting
Alright, gather 'round, skincare sceptics! Let's settle some debates once and for all. Ever heard that the higher the SPF the better the sunscreen? Or that more exfoliation is always better? Well, we’ve got news for you: your skincare handbook needs a serious update. So buckle up, and let’s debunk these myths one by one.
Myth #1: You don’t need skincare until you’re older.
Fact: Skincare is beneficial at any age. Establishing a good skincare routine early can help prevent signs of aging, sun damage, and other skin issues later in life. Prevention is often easier and way more effective than treatment.
Myth #2: Skincare products work instantly.
Fact: We like to think of regular skincare like going to the gym. You wouldn’t expect to see transformations after one session, right? Skincare takes time to show results. Most products need to be used consistently for several weeks, if not months, to see noticeable changes. Patience and consistency are key to achieving the best results.
Myth #3: The more you exfoliate, the better.
Fact: Over-exfoliating can strip the skin of its natural oils, cause irritation, and damage the skin barrier. That’s why we suggest our Rock and Roll Face Scrub twice a week: once for business, once for pleasure. Always listen to your skin and adjust the frequency based on its response.
Myth #4: Oily skin doesn’t need moisturizer.
Fact: All skin types need hydration, including oily skin. Skipping moisturizer can lead to dehydration, causing your skin to produce even more oil to compensate. The key is to choose a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer that won't clog pores. Enter the wonder that is Gameface. Specifically engineered to be light on the skin and easily absorbed, Gameface is a unique formulation of jojoba extract, Horopito oil, Ponga fern (Cumingii), and Vitamin E for a nutrient-rich, hydrating cream that will leave your skin feeling toned, supple, and fresh.
Myth #5: Drinking more water will keep your skin hydrated.
Fact: While staying hydrated is important for overall health, drinking water alone won’t solve dry skin issues. Hydration at the skin level often depends on the outermost layer, which can be supported by moisturizers that trap moisture in the skin.
Myth #6: The higher the SPF, the better the protection.
Fact: SPF mainly measures protection against UVB rays, which cause sunburn. While higher SPF does offer more protection, the increase is marginal after SPF 30. For example, SPF 30 blocks about 97% of UVB rays, while SPF 50 blocks about 98%. The key is to apply sunscreen properly and reapply every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating.
Myth #7: You only need sunscreen on sunny days.
Fact: Speaking of sunscreen, UV rays can penetrate clouds and even windows, meaning you are exposed to them all year round, regardless of the weather. That’s why we called our SPF "No Dice" — we’re not taking any chances with our skin’s health.
